Kris Knight
Study for big ears
Kris Knight is a Canadian painter whose work revolves around representation, queerness and intimacy. He is interested in the portrayal of diverse modes of masculinity, creating work that celebrates tenderness, vulnerability and ambiguity. Knight frequently uses friends and acquaintances—primarily queer creatives and performers—as models for his work, serving both as a celebration and a form of documentation. A theatrical element often emerges in his paintings, as Knight views his subjects as actors, staging them in ways that subtly reveal fragments of his own life. Working from personal photographs and collaged found imagery, and drawing upon references to floriography as well as historical art, Knight’s paintings evoke a quiet, elegant world characterized by sensitivity and a subtle sense of melancholy.
He is represented by Galerie Alain Gutharc in Paris and GAVLAK Gallery in West Palm Beach.
