Alison Postma is an artist working primarily in photography, video, and sculpture. She graduated from the University of Guelph in 2016 and is now based in Toronto. Most recently her practice has explored physically getting to know objects. In a studio setting, objects are examined and arranged with other objects in a still life to be photographed, paying close attention to texture and colour. In video work, the artist performs futile gestures with objects in an effort to understand them. In sculptural pieces, found objects are added to or modified to create something almost recognizable. In 2015 she was awarded the AIMIA/AGO Photography Prize Scholarship, and was longlisted for the New Generation Photography Award in 2018. Her work has recently been shown locally with the Drake Hotel Properties and as part of the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival.
