Farihah Aliyah Shah (b. 1989) is a Canadian lens-based artist based in Bradford, Canada (Treaty 18) and Amherst, MA who holds a BFA from OCAD University in Toronto and is pursuing an MFA in Studio Arts at the University of Massachusetts. Shah explores identity formation, collective memory, and resistance and the creation of postcolonial archives by weaving her personal Caribbean heritage against a critique of the photographic canon. She was the 2019 recipient of the John Hartman Award, the 2023 recipient of the CCI x WOPHA Fellowship at the Peréz Art Museum of Miami (PAMM) and has exhibited internationally. She’s also the co-founding member of Mast Year Collective; an artist duo exploring kinship through collective practice.
