Ifetayo Z. Alabi is a multimedia artist, who has worked in drawing, painting, collage, photography, filmmaking and more. Ife’s work is mainly collage based and they use many mediums at once as they like to experiment. They are currently based in Tkaronto to pursue their undergraduate degree in Life Studies at OCAD University. Their work focuses on themes of social justice, the ongoing climate crisis, as well as exploration of identity and its intersections. Ifetayo identifies as a mixed-Black individual who also identifies as non-binary. Their own identity is often reflected upon in their work. In the last year, they have exhibited their undergraduate thesis work titled WHAT WAS LOST AT SEA, at Gallery 1313 and ad OCAD University’s GradEx 107. WHAT WAS LOST AS SEA, is a installation/collage work that focuses on the inherent connection between Black life and the lives of whales and seals particularly during the height of the TransAtlantic Slavetrade. In addition to this Ifetayo has done work for BLM Toronto and BLM Global, and was the graphic designer for BlackChat the Podcast Vancouver. Ifetayo will be graduating from OCAD University at the end of 2022.
