Lauren Hortie is an artist, educator and DJ based in Toronto Ontario. She’s inspired by xacto knives, black markers and nightlife. Her bodies of work include the paper cut Mexican rodeo series Charreada Hoy!, large scale illustrations of rural LGBTQ culture If You’re Looking at me, You’re Looking at Country, nightlife portrait series Gay and Night, numerous gig posters, album covers and the My First Lesbian Colouring Book series. She has also co-created award-winning original shadow puppet films Whatever Happened to Jackie Shane (2014), Midnight at the Continental (2015) and Meet Me Under The Clock (2016) with filmmaker Sonya Reynolds.

Her work has been displayed and screened at The Gladstone Hotel, the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Archives, Mardi Gras Film Festival Melbourne Australia, The Christie Pitts Film Festival,  ACE Art Winnipeg, the Ontario Craft Council, Cube Cinema Bristol UK and the phone pole across the street from your house.
